we interviewed someone on there views and perceptions of possessive horrors, these are the findings.

this is evidence of planning and preparing for out documentary and what we ill include in it, this helps us to see what we are going to do and keep on track of all our work, it also shows that we have thought of different ideas and planned for different things that we may want to put into our opening

The titles to Insidious (2010)

in the opening we are introduced to a young boy and the setting which is a normal bedroom this is a stereotypical setting of possessive horrors, nothing unusual,. There is low key lighting is dark this creates a tense atmosphere, The camera moves into another room followed with non-diegetic background music which provides a dramatic mood causing suspense and tension, and creating an enigma of whats going to happen next.  At the end of the extract there is a candle with a scary mask the mask foreshadows an upcoming event as the purpose of the mask is to scare, the candle adds to the mask tension as it's made the main focus since the background is pitch black.

The Woman in Black - Movie Clip - Opening Scene: Tea Party

The opening scene of the woman in black starts off with three young girls playing with dolls these are two main aspects of many possessive horrors, this creates a normal tone as we don't expect anything dramatic to happen. The three girls all look around at the same time slowly as  if not to startle something or let it now its been noticed. they then look and see the window a zoom is used when all attention is on the window the three girls all stand up and walk towards the window they stand in a line suggesting they have been possessed  and open the window then jump out reinforcing that they are being possessed This scene is anchored by creepy non-diegetic background music and slow pace building up suspense and tension.

The Conjuring (2013) Opening

we are first see two women picking up a piece of paper which has red writing tis appears to be blood, the colour red has connotations of danger this quickly builds up suspense and tension, a handheld is used in the opening creating realism, a doll is used in this opening/film, a doll is seen often in possessive horror films as they are usually known for being nice and happy something little children play with. A zoom is used on the doll indicating that it is the main focus of the opening, it also shows us that it is not a ordinary doll. Tense non-diegetic background music is used. At the end of opening we are shown a woman talking about the doll being possessive, then a close up zoom is used on the doll which revealing the doll and showing the audience that its the main prop and centre focus of the film

Sinister (Opening Scene)

At the start of the opening we are shown four characters, all dressed in normal clothing, being hung from a tree, we see that they are children as they are small, children are also a key character in many horror films. during the opening  very long shot is used tis also appears as though it ay be a handheld camera this suggests that someone is filming them handhelds as also often used in horror films, this helps to add suspense and tension. Th tree branch drops all of a sudden , this looks although it may have been planned as they are lifted in the air all of their legs are moving slowly one by one their legs stop moving indicating that they are dead furthermore the tree branch dropping completely to the floor anchors that they are dead. The non-diegetic background music creates suspense and a lot of tension, also in this clip the setting is in an isolated area which is a typical code of a horror.
